Semester Rules



RULES & REGULATIONS FOR B.Sc. ENGINEERING DISCIPLINES

AT NFC INSTITUTE OF ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGICAL TRAINING


In addition to the stipulated rules and regulations for the Semester System at the constituent Engineering college of BZU , following rules and regulations will be applicable to the NFC IET for the implementation of its Semester System. In case of contradiction with uniform semester system rules at BZU, these rules will override.

Requirements for Degree:

1. The minimum duration of the B. Sc. Engineering degree Programmes shall not be less than four academic years.




2. The medium of instructions and examinations shall be English for all subjects except Islamic Studies and Pakistan Studies for which the medium of instructions and examinations shall be either Urdu or English




3. The courses of studies, the number of credit hours allotted to each course and the detailed syllabus shall be according to the proposals made by the Board of Studies concerned and approved by the Syndicate on the recommendations of the Board of Faculties and Academic Council.




Theory Paper




4. Sessional Marks in Theory Papers shall consists of attendance, Quizes, Sessional Tests or any other assignment as determined by the teacher concerned and shall carry 20% weightage of the total marks allotted to Theory of the subject. In each semester there shall be a mid term of 30% marks, which will be conducted by the teacher concerned under the semester system rules of B.Z.U. The remaining 30% of the marks shall be allocated for the written end term examination, which will be conducted by the Institute.







i. The Sessional marks, mid term examination marks and the end term examination marks will be tabulated by IET examination cell and will be sent to the Controller of Examinations, BZU within one week of receipt of awards from the examiners concerned






ii. Final result of the candidate shall be prepared by combining theory sessional, Mid-term and end term written examination marks.






iii. The Internal/External Examiner for the Theory paper shall be appointed by the Vice-Chancellor on the recommendations of the Convener Board of Studies who shall recommend a panel of examiners to the Controller of Examinations.





5. The Internal Examiner for the Theory paper shall set the specimen question paper for End-Term Examination at the end of each semester and send the same to the External Examiner who shall set the final question paper in duplicate (one press .copy and one office copy signed by the External Examiner) on the basis of the standard laid down by the Internal Examiner, including not less than 30% of the maximum marks from the specimen question paper.





6. The scripts shall be marked by the Internal Examiner first and then he/she shall prepare the Award lists and counterfoils. He/she shall send the counterfoils to the IET Examinations Cell within Seven days after examination. The IET Examination-Cell shall send the scripts and award to External Examiner.






The External Examiner then shall evaluate the scripts and send the award lists and marked scripts to the IET Examinations Cell. The IET Examination Cell will send awards and scripts to Controller of Examinations BZU for scrutiny within one week.





7. If the External Examiner alters the award of any candidate and the alterations does not involve a difference with the award of the Internal Examiner exceeding 20% of the total marks of the paper, then the External Examiner should not refer the case to the Internal Examiner, and his award shall be final. However, a fraction of half or more shall be counted as one and less than half be ignored.





If the External Examiner and the Internal Examiners do not agree on the marks to be awarded to a candidate, then the Controller of Examinations shall refer the case to the Vice-Chancellor who may either accept the award of the External's Examiner or appoint a third Examiner




Practical & Viva-Voice




8. Sessional work may consist of attendance, laboratory, design, quiz, work and any other assignment as determined by the teacher and shall carry 50% of the total marks allocated to Practical of a subject and the remaining 50% of the marks shall be for end term practical and Viva-Voce examinations.





a. Each assignment of sessional work undertaken during each Semester shall be evaluated by the concerned teacher and the marks shall be notified to the candidate prior to end term examination.





9. The end term Practical & Viva-Voce Examinations shall be conducted jointly by the Internal and External Examiners and the award list shall be submitted to IET Examination Cell for onward transmission to the Controller of Examinations.






In case of disagreement in respect of the award of marks between the Internal and External Examiners, the Director of the Institute shall act as an arbitrator whose decision shall be final.





10. The Board of Studies will recommend a panel of one Internal and four External Examiners including one of them from the Institute. The Vice-Chancellor will approve the External Examiners in order of priority.





11. FINAL RESULT OF EACH SEMESTER






i. Final Result (CGPA- & CPA) will be calculated for each Semester as per Semester System rules implemented in BZU Constituent Engineering College.






ii. The institute will tabulate the result of the respective semester from the copy of the Awards (Theory, Practical) received from the Internal and External Examiners and submit the tabulated result to the controller of examinations or scrutiny and declaration of the result.





Attendance Requirements





12. The attendance requirement for appearing in Semester Examination will be same as that of BZU.





Application for Examination





13. A candidate who wishes to seek admission to an examination shall submit to the Controller of Examinations through the Director of the Institute, an application in the prescribed from.





14. Notwithstanding anything to the contrary contained in these regulations, no candidate shall be admitted to an examination after the expiry of 07 academic years from the date of his/her admission to the first year in the University/Institute.






A candidate shall be admitted to the Degree if






i. He/She has passed all the papers of the Degree Programme in the relevant discipline; and






ii. He/She has attended and satisfactorily completed at least 04 to 08-weeks Industrial Training where applicable as certified by the Director NFC Institute of Engineering & Technological Training, Multan .






iii. Has successfully passed a non credit comprehensive examination consisting of the core courses of the discipline at the end of degree program for which he will be allowed 03 consecutive chances. The comprehensive examination will be hold within one week of last Semester Exams. The core courses of the discipline will be decided by the Board of Studies.






Conduct of Examination





15. The final examination of the respective semester shall be arranged/conducted and its date sheet shall be by the incharge IET examination cell and such examinations shall be held by the institute.





16.. As soon as possible, but not later than Seven days after receiving the Awards from the IET Examination Cell, the Controller of Examinations BZU shall notify the result





17. The BZU Inspector may inspect the end term/comprehensive examinations "at the Institute as and when deem fit.






Examination Fee






a. IET will pay to BZU, the prescribed examination fee. Where as all the expensive such as TA/DA, remuneration etc will be born by the institute.






Provisional Promotion to Higher Semester






i.

All the BZU rules relating to Semester promotion/regulation/probation will be followed;







ii. A student will be promoted provisionally to the next semester on production of an affidavit that if he/she fails and does not qualify for promotion to next higher semester, he/she will be relegated / dropped or expelled from the role of the Institute/University.
